‘Tooning for Tots Volume 16: Pop Goes the ‘Toonist

By October 6, 2014'Tooning for Tots

In Volume 16 of ‘Tooning for Tots, the children picked a ton of copyrighted (copywritten? copyright?) material to be drawn. We’ve got comic book characters from Marvel and DC Comics, cartoon characters from Disney, Minecraft video game creatures, and a Bears fan. The lone ‘original’ drawings here are of a leopard and a seahorse. I’ve mentioned the companies in the post tags, but I’m largely working on the assumption that these characters are so familiar, that it goes without saying I did not make them up. As this is a non-profit site, with drawings done for children, I think we’re in okay shape. Only time and litigation will tell.

This round of sketches was challenging for me. I am a huge comic book fan, but as I’ve made note many times before, I am not the best figure drawer. Even so, I think the Ironman and Catwoman drawings are particularly successful. Batman is always a pain because he’s my favorite character, and I collapse under the weight of memories of past great illustrators who have depicted the character. The other drawing of which I’m proud in this batch is the leopard — our featured picture of the week.

Please check out the gallery below and let me know what you think. See you next week!
